Web agency for The Hague

Web design in The Hague
for the international city

Smart Design builds trustworthy, accessible websites and apps in English, Arabic and Dutch for organisations, NGOs, professional service providers and hospitality businesses in The Hague.

A website in The Hague is read by diplomats, lawyers, researchers and international families, but also by the local resident in Scheveningen. We make sure everyone understands your message, in their own language and on any device.

International city

Trust is your most important business card

The Hague is the city of the Peace Palace, international courts, embassies and hundreds of organisations working worldwide. Around them runs an entire economy of law firms, translation agencies, consultants, international schools, doctors and relocation services.

The same applies to all of them: visitors decide within seconds whether you are serious and reliable. A cluttered site, an outdated English translation or a form that does not feel secure, and they move on to the next. That is why we focus on calm, professional design, clear language and security.

What we pay attention to:

  • Calm, professional design that fits your organisation
  • Secure forms and HTTPS on every page
  • Privacy statement and cookie choices in line with the GDPR
  • Fast loading, also on older phones and slow networks
  • Daily backups and a three-month warranty

For organisations

Do you work with a board or several departments? We record decisions in a short proposal you can share internally.

Who we build for

Websites for The Hague’s organisations

Every organisation has a different audience: donors, clients, members or guests.

NGOs and foundations

A site that explains your mission clearly, shows projects and reports and accepts online donations through iDEAL, cards or recurring payments with Mollie.

International organisations

For institutions, networks and knowledge institutes: news, events and publications in several languages, managed by your own team without technical knowledge.

Legal and advisory

Lawyers, legal advisers, translators and consultants with an international practice: clear areas of expertise, team profiles and a confidential contact form.

Services around embassies

Suppliers, caterers, estate agents and relocation agencies that work for diplomatic clients: a polished English-language site with discreet ways to make enquiries.

Healthcare and practices

GPs, dentists, therapists and clinics with international patients: information in several languages, online appointments and a secure way to receive personal data.

Shops and hospitality

From the Frederikstraat to the Haagse Markt and the beach boulevard: findable in Google Maps, with a menu, webshop or booking system.

Three languages

English, Arabic and Dutch on one site

In The Hague, English is often the working language, Dutch the language of the municipality and the neighbours, and for many organisations Arabic is the language of partners, beneficiaries or clients in the Middle East and North Africa. A site that handles all three languages well opens doors that would otherwise stay closed.

Arabic takes more than translation. The whole page mirrors: menu, icons, forms and tables run from right to left, and the typeface must be just as readable as the Latin script. Because Arabic is a native language within our team, we check this ourselves, including the tone of the copy.

Arranged for each language:

  • A separate address per language, so Google shows each version separately
  • Full mirroring for Arabic, not just the text
  • Forms, emails and notifications in the visitor’s language
  • Edit the copy for each language yourself in the admin panel

One page, three versions

  • /en/about-us
  • /ar/من-نحن
  • /nl/over-ons
  • hreflang: en · ar · nl
  • Arabic: dir="rtl"
Accessibility

A website everyone can use

For government-related organisations, NGOs and healthcare providers, digital accessibility is not an extra. Your audience also includes people with visual impairments, people who navigate by keyboard and older visitors who need larger text. On top of that, since June 2025 the requirements of the European Accessibility Act apply to many webshops and digital services in the EU.

We build with WCAG 2.1 level AA as our starting point: sufficient contrast, logical headings, descriptions for images, forms with clear labels and a site that can be followed with a screen reader.

  • Contrast and font size checked
  • Fully operable by keyboard
  • Alt texts and clear link texts
  • Accessible in all three languages, Arabic included

Scheveningen

Seaside hospitality, all year round

Beach pavilions, seafood restaurants and hotels in Scheveningen and Kijkduin are mostly searched by German and international tourists in summer, and by locals in winter. So your site has to move with the seasons.

Apps

An app for members, attendees or guests

For organisations that serve a regular group of people, an app of your own for iPhone and Android can do more than a website: send notifications, handle registrations and make information available offline.

  • Member or donor app
  • App for conferences and events
  • Push notifications in three languages
  • Linked to the same admin panel as your website
Process

A clear process, even with several decision-makers

A standard website is usually live within 10 to 20 working days.

01

Audiences and languages

Together we decide who you want to reach, the order of the languages and which accessibility requirements apply to you. You receive a proposal you can present internally.

02

Design, copy and build

Once the design is approved we build the site, prepare the copy for each language and test for contrast, keyboard use and screen readers.

03

Launch and training

The site goes live, is submitted to Google for each language and we train your team in the admin panel, in Dutch, English or Arabic.

FAQ

Questions about web design in The Hague

Yes. The whole layout mirrors, not just the text: menu, buttons, forms and tables. Arabic is a native language within our team, so we also check that the copy reads naturally.

We build with WCAG 2.1 level AA as the starting point and test the key points. What you add yourself, such as videos and PDFs, must be accessible too; we explain how to do that.

Yes. We build sites with project pages, news, reports and online donations through Mollie, including recurring donations. Your team manages everything itself.

Yes. Our office is in Haarlem. For a first meeting or a presentation to your board we are happy to come to you in The Hague, Rijswijk, Delft or nearby; the rest often happens online.

We only collect what is needed, secure forms and connections, and provide a privacy statement and cookie choices in line with the GDPR. For sensitive enquiries we can use a form without attachments or with limited fields.

That depends on the number of languages, pages and features such as donations, appointments or an app. After a conversation you receive a fixed-price quote, which you can also present internally.

You get a three-month warranty, daily backups and a fixed point of contact for questions, new pages or an extra language.
