Web design in Egypt
with Fawry and cash on delivery

A website, webshop or app for your business in Cairo, Alexandria, Giza, Mansoura or anywhere else in Egypt: Arabic first, English alongside, with payment through Fawry, cards, mobile wallets such as Vodafone Cash, and cash on delivery.

Smart Design is a web agency from Haarlem in the Netherlands, with a team whose native language is Arabic. We work fully remotely: video calls, a shared schedule and a test version you can view on your phone. Cairo is only about one hour ahead of the Netherlands, so our working hours largely overlap.

Fully in Arabic, fully remote — no office in Egypt, but the same working rhythm

The Egyptian market

What an Egyptian website needs

Egypt is a large market where almost everything happens on mobile, where many customers still pay cash on delivery and where prices can change quickly. A good site takes all of that into account from day one.

Arabic first, English alongside

A complete right-to-left Arabic site, with copy that speaks to Egyptian customers, plus an English version for tourism, export and business clients.

Cash on delivery without chaos

Confirmation via WhatsApp before shipping, shipping fees per governorate and an overview of cash collected per courier.

Fawry, cards and wallets

Payment with a Fawry reference code, with Visa, Mastercard or Meeza, or with a mobile wallet such as Vodafone Cash, through an Egyptian payment gateway.

Update prices quickly

Prices in Egyptian pounds that you adjust per product, per category or all at once by a percentage, without a developer.

Found on Google

Keywords the way Egyptians actually type them, in Standard Arabic and in dialect, and a Google Business Profile per branch.

Light and fast on mobile

Pages that load quickly on mobile data and on simpler Android phones, with images that are resized automatically.

Orders & delivery

Cash on delivery, done properly

In Egypt a large share of online customers still pay the courier in cash. That lowers the barrier to ordering, but also brings problems: orders nobody really meant, customers who do not open the door, parcels that come back and money that stays with a courier for days. Businesses that sell only through a Facebook page often track all of this in loose messages and spreadsheets.

We build your webshop so this process lives inside the system. Every cash-on-delivery order first gets a confirmation via WhatsApp or SMS; only after approval does it move to shipping. You set shipping fees per governorate, so Cairo and Giza can differ from Upper Egypt or Sinai. Where the courier offers an API, such as Bosta or Aramex, we create shipments automatically and track their status. You can flag phone numbers that often refuse deliveries, and for expensive orders you can ask for a deposit through Fawry or a wallet.

What you see in the admin panel:

  • Status per order: confirmed, shipped, delivered or refused
  • Shipping fees and delivery time per governorate
  • Cash on delivery collected per courier
  • Returns and refusals per customer
  • Export for your accounting

Online payment

Fawry, cards and mobile wallets

More and more Egyptians pay online, but not everyone has a credit card. That is why Fawry matters so much: the customer receives a reference code and pays it at a Fawry point around the corner or in the app. Customers also want to pay with Visa, Mastercard and the national Meeza card, and with mobile wallets such as Vodafone Cash. Some shops also let customers transfer through InstaPay and then confirm the payment themselves in the admin panel.

Mollie and iDEAL do not work in Egypt. So we connect your site to an Egyptian payment gateway, such as Paymob, FawryPay or Kashier. You sign the contract yourself, in the name of your Egyptian business; we handle the technical integration, test every payment method and make sure paid, pending and refunded orders are clearly shown in your admin panel. Exactly which methods you can offer depends on your contract with the gateway.

  • Fawry reference code, valid for a set period
  • Visa, Mastercard and Meeza
  • Vodafone Cash and other mobile wallets
  • Cash on delivery as a fixed option next to online payment

E-invoicing

Invoices and receipts for the Egyptian Tax Authority

The Egyptian Tax Authority (ETA) has introduced two systems: the electronic invoice for sales to businesses, and the electronic receipt (e-receipt) for sales to consumers. Both are becoming mandatory in phases for more and more businesses, with 14% VAT as the standard rate. For a webshop this means every order must produce the right data to create a valid invoice or receipt.

We make sure your shop records that data properly: products with the correct codes, VAT per line, customer details for business clients. We then connect it to your accounting package or ERP that is already linked to the ETA system, or directly to the tax authority’s integration if that fits better. Confirm with your accountant whether and when your business is required to comply; we are web developers, not tax advisers.

  • Product codes and VAT per order line
  • Business customer details captured at checkout
  • Invoice or receipt as a PDF for the customer, in Arabic
  • API connection to your accounting or ERP system
  • Export of all orders for your accountant

An honest comparison

Facebook page, ready-made platform or own store?

Many Egyptian shops start on Facebook and Instagram, or with a ready-made platform such as Shopify or ExpandCart. That is a fine start. A custom platform pays off once your business grows and your processes get more complex.

Social media or a platform fits when…

  • you are just starting and want to test your products first
  • you have a small range and answer the messages yourself
  • you want to start quickly for a fixed monthly fee
  • you need no custom integrations, app or B2B pricing

Your own store pays off when…

  • you have many cash-on-delivery orders that need confirming and tracking
  • you want wholesale and retail prices side by side
  • you need an integration with stock, POS or e-invoicing
  • website, app and back office must be one system, with your data

Not sure? We look together at what you need right now. Sometimes the honest advice is to stay on your current platform a little longer; we then help you move smoothly later, including your products and customers.

Apps & visibility

Your own app, and found in Cairo

In Egypt most people use an Android phone. For restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies, clinics and shops with regular customers, your own app can deliver a lot: reorder with one tap, push notifications about offers, loyalty points and live delivery tracking. We build Android and iOS apps that use the same database and admin panel as your website. Apps start from €3,500, depending on the features.

Being found happens in Arabic, and Egyptians often search in dialect, adding their district: Nasr City, Maadi, Sheikh Zayed, New Cairo or Smouha in Alexandria. We research those keywords, write pages per service and per area, and set up your Google Business Profile for each branch. That way you appear in Google Maps when someone nearby searches, not only through paid Facebook ads.

  • Android and iOS apps from one code base
  • Push notifications, loyalty points and order history
  • Arabic keyword research, including Egyptian dialect
  • Google Business Profile per branch
  • Ordering or booking via WhatsApp

Hosting & privacy

Fast hosting and personal data

Egypt has its own personal data protection law, Law No. 151 of 2020. We only ask for the data you really need, publish a clear privacy policy and choose hosting with a CDN that is fast for visitors in Egypt. What the law exactly requires of your business is something to confirm with your adviser.

  • Privacy policy in Arabic and English
  • Daily backups
  • SSL and a secured admin area
  • User roles for your staff
Domain name

A .com.eg or .com domain

An Egyptian domain such as .com.eg shows you are active locally; registration usually requires documents from your Egyptian company. Many businesses use a .com as their main domain and add .com.eg later. We arrange it with you.

  • Domain always in your company’s name
  • Business email on your own domain
  • .com and .com.eg pointing to the same site
  • DNS, SSL and email fully arranged
How we work

Working remotely, in your language

No office in Egypt, but short lines: video calls, a shared schedule, a test version on your phone and one fixed point of contact. We take the Egyptian Friday–Saturday weekend into account.

01

Video kick-off

We discuss your business, your customers, your delivery and payment methods. You then receive a clear quote and schedule.

02

Design & build

You approve the Arabic design; we build the site in two languages and connect the payment gateway, couriers and invoicing.

03

Launch & warranty

After testing everything goes live, we submit the site to Google and train you and your team on the admin panel. A three-month warranty follows.

FAQ

Questions about web design in Egypt

Yes. We are based in Haarlem in the Netherlands and work fully remotely, through video calls in Arabic or English. Cairo is about one hour ahead of the Netherlands, so we are available during your working hours.

We build custom with Laravel and Vue, with your own admin panel instead of a heavy theme. You get one fixed point of contact, a written quote, daily backups and a three-month warranty, and the code and domain are in your name.

Yes. At checkout the customer chooses between cash on delivery, Fawry, card or wallet. Which online methods are available depends on your contract with an Egyptian gateway such as Paymob, FawryPay or Kashier.

You adjust prices yourself in the admin panel: per product, per category or for the whole range at once by a percentage. Your shop stays up to date without waiting for a developer.

We build your shop so every order records the right data, and connect it to your accounting or ERP system that is linked to the ETA system. Whether and when you are required to comply is something to confirm with your accountant.

A standard website is usually live within 10 to 20 working days; a webshop with integrations or an app takes longer, and you receive a schedule up front. We invoice in euro and you pay by international bank transfer.

That depends on the features, integrations and languages. After a short call you receive a quote with a fixed price and no hidden costs. Only apps have a starting price: from €3,500.
