Jordan is not a huge market, but it is a special one. Amman has a lively scene of start-ups and tech companies, the population is young and well educated, and many Jordanian businesses also serve customers in the Gulf, in Iraq or in the diaspora. Every year many visitors arrive as well: tourists for Petra, Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea and Aqaba, and patients who travel to clinics and hospitals in Amman for treatment.

One platform, two audiences
Jordan has two home-grown payment systems that almost everyone knows. With CliQ a customer instantly transfers money from their banking app or wallet to an alias, such as a business name or phone number, and the money is in your account right away. With eFAWATEERcom a customer pays a bill through their banking app, wallet or a payment outlet, using a bill or customer number. The latter is ideal for recurring payments: school fees, subscriptions, memberships or treatment plans.
For card payments with Visa and Mastercard we connect your site to a payment gateway or to your bank’s online payment service. For CliQ, your shop shows the alias and a unique reference; depending on what your bank or gateway offers, the payment is recognised automatically or you confirm it with one click in the admin panel. For eFAWATEERcom you register as a biller through your bank or provider; we make sure bills and payment statuses match in your system. You sign the contracts yourself, in the name of your Jordanian company.
Jordan’s Income and Sales Tax Department has introduced JoFotara, a national system for electronic invoices. Businesses register their invoices in that system, and the department is extending the group of businesses that must comply step by step. The general sales tax rate is 16%, with lower rates for certain products.
For your webshop or booking site this means every paid order has to produce a correct invoice. We record the right data in your shop, such as the tax rate per product and the details of business customers, and connect it to your accounting package or directly to JoFotara through the available integration. Confirm with your accountant whether you must comply and which rates apply to your products; we are web developers, not tax advisers.

A Jordanian domain shows you are established locally. For .jo and .com.jo you usually need documents from your Jordanian company or trademark. We help with the application, or start on a .com and add the .jo domain later.
